Brinjal is a hardy, long-lived crop that suits Malaysia's heat. With steady watering and feeding, a healthy plant can keep producing for many months.

  1. Sow seeds in a tray about 0.5 cm deep and keep warm and moist.
  2. Transplant into a large pot or polybag when seedlings have 4–6 true leaves.
  3. Place in full sun and water when the top of the soil starts to dry.
  4. Once flowering starts, feed according to the fertilizer label, and stake the plant if it leans.
  5. Harvest fruit while the skin is still glossy.

Tip: dull skin means the fruit is over-mature and seedy. Pick earlier for better texture, and the plant will set more fruit.
