Plants in pots use up the nutrients in their soil quickly, especially when frequent watering and heavy rain wash them out. A liquid feed is a simple way to top them up between repotting.
- Read the label for the dilution rate and how often to apply.
- Measure carefully — more is not better, and too strong a mix can burn roots.
- If the soil is dry, water the plant lightly first.
- Apply the diluted feed around the root zone.
- Rinse your measuring cup and watering can afterwards.
Tip: feed in the cooler morning or evening rather than in the midday heat, and keep to the label's schedule instead of making up for missed feeds with a stronger mix.
