Kratky Hydroponic Starter Kit

The Kratky method is the simplest form of hydroponics. Plants sit in net cups above a container of nutrient solution, and the roots drink as the level slowly drops — no pump and no electricity. The kit contents are listed on the shop page.

1. Start seeds in net cups with growing medium; lettuce is a good first crop.
2. Fill the container with clean water and mix in AB nutrient according to its label.
3. Set the cups so their bottoms just touch the solution.
4. As roots grow and the level drops, leave the air gap — the upper roots need air.
5. Top up only when the level is low, and never fill back to the brim.

Tip: keep the container lightproof to stop algae, and keep rainwater out so the solution is not diluted.
